Marie Barry is currently an independent consultant with more than 30 years’ experience in education, counseling and workforce development. She served as State Director of CTE for more than ten years during her 18-year tenure at the New Jersey Department of Education where she focused on strengthening statewide collaboration and partnerships to foster the development of multiple options to support postsecondary success for all students. She coordinated with workforce development entities statewide to promote articulation between education, the business and labor communities and other stakeholders to ensure the development of high quality, dynamic CTE programs that integrate academic and technical skills.

Prior to joining the Department, Ms. Barry had extensive experience as a career counselor and consultant where she provided services for youth and adults in the community. She designed and taught programs at Ocean County College to address the varied career development needs of students, the entering workforce, displaced workers and incumbent workers. Additionally, she coordinated services to facilitate positive outcomes for individuals with severe disabilities.

Ms. Barry served on the Board of Directors for Advance CTE for nearly ten years as a regional representative, Secretary-Treasurer, Vice-President and the 2012-13 President.

She is a certified school counselor, a licensed professional counselor (LPC), a national board-certified counselor (NBCC) and a certified rehabilitation counselor (CRC, retired) . Ms. Barry holds a Bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and a Master’s degree in Counseling and Special Services from Seton Hall University.
